Dramatic events in Israel have escalated the debate about what is acceptable criticism of Israel and when it is already anti-Semitism. This situation is not new and was experienced by the Jewish community, for example, during the communist regime. Passionate argumentation, often based on different ideological assumptions, sometimes spills over into hatred of opponents. The only way to overcome misunderstandings is through honest and open discussion that is not afraid to come to perhaps surprising conclusions.
The lecture by Štěpán Menas Klimet, rabbi of the Jewish community of Brno, will take place in the exhibition Humour without Fun, which focuses on anti-Semitic cartoons published in the Czechoslovak and Soviet press between 1948 and 1989 in the context of the current situation on social media.
